'WEEDING THE GARDEN STATE' OUT NOW
Started as a passion project and a way to voice frustrations, Rattleback soon became a force to be reckoned with.
A collaborative effort between Vocalist Aiden Hynes, Bassist Harry Ross and Drummer Rob Watson, three dirty, frustrated lefties residing in Melbourne, they combined their predilections for fast, heavy music and their love for the live music scene to mould a brand of fast, hardcore punk with spoonful’s of powerviolence and the occasional riff driven interlude.
In 2020, they released their debut album ‘Weeding the garden state’, which turned heads amongst the group they’d culminated around them, proving they could put the air of vicious relentlessness they’d proved on Melbourne’s stages into recording:
Not afraid of wearing their hearts on their sleeves, the messages they deem important permeate the songs they produce: be it the (continual) spate of violence against women, or pill testing at festivals they combine this snot nosed, unabashed spite for conservatism with lighter takes on what it is to them being a millennial Melbournian, be it simply making a mad dash to their local bottle-o to light jabs at not having enough money for a pint despite hard work. Regardless of the matter, they remain quintessentially Melburnian.
They pride themselves on being personable and approachable off stage and a member of the crowd on stage.
“These boys play like they’ve got ants in their pants, and when I say ants I mean big fuckoff bull ants, stinging the bajeezus out of their nether regions. There was a frenzy of jumping and writhing and shouting and blood and angry loud punk rock”
Brad Spasm – Protospasm/Good bloke
"Anarchy. Chaotic. PUNK! Rattleback get in your face and stay there. From their enraged stage presence and relentless energy, this trio slap hard."
