ANTI FADE RECORDS
NEW SINGLE 'REAL ESTATE AGENT'
Smarts have dropped their second single 'Real Estate Agent' from their upcoming LP 'Who Needs Smarts, Anyway?', out on October 16th via Anti Fade Records (AUS) and Feel It Records (USA).
'Real Estate Agent' is as frenzied and fast as you'd as expect from Smarts. Wrist-breaking hi-hats and hooky guitar lines are complimented with a chaotic saxophone. It's a fun ride clocking in at under two minutes.
Following the first single 'Cling Wrap', this second track further teases that we can expect the LP will be a frenetic and chaotic nod to 80's punk, but done in the clever, sharp-turn way that Smarts do best.
'Who Needs Smarts, Anyway?' was recorded by the band themselves over a weekend slumber in Geelong at the DIY studio setup; The Barracks, with finishing coats added in Melbourne before sending off to mix-master- Mikey in Rye.
Points of reference could be compared to the quirkiness of LA’s Suburban Lawns or Geza X, as well as citing influence from modern sounds like Japanese band Vodovo and the ever-evolving Midwest American punk scene. It could even be viewed as a refreshing and original extension on the so-called “egg punk” genre.
